Supermarket giant Tesco will be launching free fruit for kids in over 800 stores across the UK.

The idea is that whilst parents shop, a selection of fruit will be available such as bananas, soft citrus and apples for parents to hand to their kids.

This came about after a colleague at a Tesco store in Lincolnshire, Maria Simpson recommended that kids eat fruit instead of sweets whilst their parents are shopping. The idea was trailed in Scotland to see how it might work on a larger scale.

Chief executive for UK and ROI, Matt Davies, said: “We’re Britain’s biggest greengrocer, so we want to make it easier for parents to get their children eating more healthily."
