Despite fears that Brexit could hamper future growth of the manufacturing industry, currently the weakened pound is causing an uptake in exports. The retail industry also saw a recent resurgence during the three months to August, which saw food sales increase 1.8% on a like-for-like basis, as growth in other sales increased by 0.6%. Chief executive of the British Retail Consortium, Helen Dickinson said, “August provided a welcome pick-up in retail sales across channels, with non-food returning to growth as shoppers’ attentions turned to homewares, autumn clothing ranges and the new school term.”
