Between April to June 2016 and July to September 2016, the number of people in work increased and the number of unemployed people decreased, according to the Office for National Statistics.

There were 31.80 million people in work, 49,000 more than for April to June 2016 and 461,000 more than for a year earlier and the employment rate (the proportion of people aged from 16 to 64 who were in work) was 74.5%, the joint highest since comparable records began in 1971.
