The boss of budget airline Easyjet has said that the post-Brexit slump in the pound saw the company’s costs soar £40 million.

Carolyn McCall said that the drop in the value of the pound had sent prices for fuel soaring as the firm pays for its fuel in US dollars, whilst the increased costs of travelling abroad is putting some holiday makers off travelling outside the UK.

However, Ms McCall said that the latest figures were merely a glitch.
"It is worth pointing out that although every airline is having a tough time, it is very good news for passengers," she told the BBC's Today programme. "It actually means it's cheaper to fly and ticket prices are low".

"If you are a passenger, you are reading every day in the papers that it is more expensive to spend money on holiday," Ms McCall added, although she added that demand would probably "normalise over next few months".
