It has been reported that Costa has introduced a new food-led concept store in Central London called ‘Costa Fresco’ where it will sell products such as salads, cakes, porridge, quiches and pastries in a bid to attract more sales.
Costa’s global director of brand & innovation, Carol Welch, said: “We really want to bring something different to the food market in London. The store will be similar to the traditional Costa stores, but will have much more of a food focus. All pastries, cakes and bread will be baked on site – our customers are telling us they want more, good quality food.”
Costa decided to open the new food concept as it keeps up with its competitors who have also introduced other products other than just coffee. Companies such as Pret have introduced a restaurant service after 6pm offering a fine dining menu, Greggs have restored its healthy food options and Starbucks opened a theatrical ‘after-hours’ store.
With Costa being the largest coffee chain the in the UK, with 1,582 stores, the company has suggested that if the new food concept is successful, then it will be rolled out across the country.
