It has been reported that the Co-operative Group is looking to open a further 100 stores by the end of this year.
So far this year, the Co-op has opened 12 new outlets in locations including Blackpool, London and Glasgow and said it has no plans to slow down.
Rob Bignold, head of acquisitions and new store development, said: “Our new store programme is really starting to gain momentum now. We plan to open another 100 shops this year, a target which is unrivalled by any other UK retailer. The sheer size of our ambition is making the industry sit up and take notice of us, which is fantastic to see.”
The opening of new stores is to overcome the Co-op Group's financial difficulties and debt, as the Co-op Group revealed that annual losses more than doubled at the Co-op Bank.
However, locations looking to open a new store this month are Iver, St. Helens and Inverary.
