I'm sure you've come across Camden on your travels; if not, well, you're missing out! Whether you've been to Camden or not, you're about to get the next train down there...why?
Because Moomin, one of Finland’s biggest cultural exports, is opening a new store with over 3000 different Moomin products from over 40 different suppliers around the globe. The shop's main focus is on homeware and high-end items such as Moomin bedding, cushions, clothing, stationery and tableware as well as toys and Moomin books. This store caters to everyone’s taste, whether it’s wacky and colourful or simple and minimalistic they have something for you. Situated within a Grade II-listed former horse hospital, the store is targeting fans of Moomin who love scandanavian design or people looking to convert into that.
The opening of the store is the fulfilment of a dream that its owner and manager, Magnus Englund, who previosuly was the co-founder of the scandanavian design retailer Skandium. Englund said: “I’m a life-long fan of Moomin creator Tove Jansson’s work, and have had the ambition to open a dedicated Moomin shop for many years – but was always too busy! I’m thrilled to now be opening our doors in Camden Market, which is the perfect place for a Moomin shop with its strong footfall and mix of cool brands like Dr Martens and the Modfather. It’s a shopping destination not just for tourists but also for Londoners.”
The Moomin store will be open from 10am to 7pm, seven days a week and 364 days a year! All you eager shoppers can visit this store for basically the whole year, so no excuses! The store is now the second dedicated store in the UK following the opening of the Moomin shop Covent Garden in 2011.
Englund is also partnering up with the owner of the store in Covent Garden, Patrick Haddad, to launch a new distribution company which will make it much easier for other retailers around the UK to stock their Moomin products. The company will be called Design Distribution which will represent 50 Moomin licensces from around the world to stock their products in a third-party warehouse in the UK.
