Boots owner Walgreens Boots Alliance has seen a rise in sales thanks to its UK arm’s strong pharmacy sales.
Group sales for the last quarter saw a 5.3% rise in sales to £22.73 billion, and a 0.7% rise to £89.2 billion on a yearly basis.
Pharmacy sales in the Boots UK division saw a 1.2% boost, but this was largely offset by poor performance in other markets seeing global like for likes drop 3.2%.
Group chief executive Stefano Pessina said: “We are pleased to report the company has performed well, with our businesses delivering significant progress while managing against ongoing prescription reimbursement pressure and competing in fast-changing retail environments.
“We look forward to building on this solid underlying growth in the year to come, enhanced by the expansion of our US retail pharmacy network through the upcoming purchases of Rite Aid stores.”
