Hotels based in Birmingham have reported their most successful year, with record bookings from both international and domestic tourists. The redevelopments to the city centre over the past 20 years, including a revamped Bullring Shopping Centre have contributed to changing the perception of the area. Introductions of Michelin starred restaurants and a host of cultural events such as the Birmingham and Solihull Jazz festival have also helped mould this change. Occupancy rates for the hotels went as high as 99% and remained at an average of approximately 75%, which marks record highs for the city. The boost has also resulted in increased revenue for the area, with the average spend per head increased up to £82, from £69 three years ago.  Events such as the Frankfurt Christmas market brought in roughly £400m for the local economy, which is the highest recorded revenue for the event.
