Supermarket Asda is reportedly scaling back its Black Friday offers after last year’s event saw too many big ticket items being sold at a loss and food sales slumping in the electronics-centred shopping frenzy.

Instead of one-day deals seen in 2014, which caused such chaos that some shoppers were arrested in brawls over items such as TVs, the supermarket is thought to be looking into spreading deals over several days or transferring more offers online.

Asda, which is widely credited with helping to launch the US shopping event in the UK market, said that it was “too early” to comment.

Mark Solomon, from sales website Love The Sales, told the Mirror newspaper: "We know that a number of retailers have said they are running their Black Friday sales a day early this year.

"Presumably this will alleviate some of the stress experienced by stores and websites last year. Some retailers will also be looking to employ this tactic to get ahead of the competition.”
