Asda has announced that it has seen a 5.8% drop in sales in its third quarter, as the company continue to be the worst performing supermarket out of the Big 4.
Figures show that in the three months to 30th September, the supermarket’s net sales decreased 3.8%, whilst operating profits also dropped, however a figure was not disclosed by Asda.

Parent company of Asda, Walmart, have said that the UK is the only market out of 11 that it is currently trading in to not experience growth as customer numbers fall 4.2%, however the ones that still did shop spent 1.6% less on each visit.

The supermarket’s chief executive, Sean Clarke, who has only been in the position since July, has had a rough few weeks, with intense competition seeing one of Asda’s USP’s becoming irrelevant and a recent Watchdog exposing the poor home delivery hygiene and a card reader glitch in store which caused chaos.

Mr Clarke commented: “We have lowered thousands of prices, improved hundreds of own brand products and invested in more hours for colleagues on the shop floor – so it’s encouraging to see more customers shopping with us in stores and online,”
Asda still offers the lowest prices of the Big 4 according to a recent study by Which?
