It has been announced that Walmart, the owner of Asda, is looking at its China boss Sean Clarke to be the next chief executive, however the British retail industry will be in for a shock as they were expecting Asda’s chief operating officer, Roger Burnley to take the position.

Sean Clarke started his career at Asda as commercial finance director as well as moving into roles in Germany, Japan and Canada. From there, Clarke transferred to China into the position of chief operating officer for the country before being promoted to president and chief executive of the 400 store estate.

If Mr Clarke does become the UK’s new CEO, he will face a significant task in leading Asda's turnaround business and continuing increased competition with the Big Four and discount retailers.

Currently working on a makeover strategy called Project Reset, the current boss is looking to improve services and availability, price competitiveness and formats.
