It has been announced today that Android Pay has finally landed in the UK after months of rumours. The service has been available in the USA for a while and draws in around 1.5million new users each month.
Banks supporting the app include Lloyds, HSBC, Halifax and Bank of Scotland. RBS has said on its Twitter page that it is “something we are currently looking into and [we] hope to make an announcement soon.”
Alternative payment methods such as Apple Pay are continually growing in popularity. The UK was among the top three countries in Europe to use the app, catalysed by their use for London public transport. In addition, over the last year, Visa Europe declared over 3 billion contactless transactions were made in Europe, almost triple the amount from the 2014-2015 period.
