Amazon has announced plans for an enormous UK recruitment drive, which is set to bring its workforce to more than 24,000.

5000 new UK jobs will be created by the retailer, which will include a new apprenticeship programme, helping young employees into full time engineering and logistics roles.

The roles will cover the whole of the UK, adding staff to development centres in Cambridge, London and Edinburgh, as well as in new centres due to open in Doncaster, Tillbury and Daventry. Staff at these centres will focus on developing Prime Air and Amazon Alexa.

A number of employees will also be hired to work in Amazon’s head office in London, its photography studio in East London, and delivery centres across the UK.

Amazon UK manager Doug Gurr said: “We are hiring for all types of roles, from flight-test engineers, software engineers and corporate managers in our development centres and head office to operations managers, engineers, service technicians and order fulfilment roles."
