Whilst they are currently trialling their checkout-free grocery chain in an employee-only store based in Seattle, US, tech company Amazon has reportedly begun searching for a London location. They registered a UK trademark for their Amazon Go stores back in December 2016, with the stores potentially placing pressure on existing supermarkets due to the reduced costs of labour from the absence of checkouts. The company debuted the idea around the same time with the concept being that items would be charged to customers' Amazon accounts.
