Amazon has raised its minimum wage for workers across the UK and US.
Pay will rise in the UK from £8.20 an hour to £10.50 an hour in London, whilst other areas in the UK will pay £9.50 an hour. In the US, the lowest paid worker will earn $15 an hour.
This comes after the online retailer was criticised for its employment practices, with many complaints around their warehouse working conditions.
The new pay rates will begin on November 1st. It will benefit around 250,000 workers in the US, 17,000 in the UK and also thousands of seasonal workers.
The general secretary of the UK’s GMB union, Tim Roache has said that the announcement is a step in the right direction, but has said of the move, "Given their owner is the richest man in the world you'd think he could see fit to dig a little deeper, but it's a start.’
