Online retailer Amazon have announced a 55% rise in fourth quarter profit this year, capping off what was seen to be a largely successful period in online sales. Despite this, the company also saw its share price fall slightly as the figures narrowly missed Wall Street’s expectations, with the overall revenue of $43.7bn still not enough to match the $44.68bn predicted by analysts polled by Reuters. Amazon Web Services, which hosts Netflix and Air Bnb amongst others, is the company’s most profitable division, seeing revenue $3.53bn, though this is still short of the $3.60bn predicted. The company has frequently placed growth and reinvestment above profits, much to the chargin of investors however they continue to heavily reinvest in the smaller divisons of the business.
