In the wake of American Apparel filing for bankruptcy in November, companies such as online retailer, Amazon, and teen apparel store chain, Forever 21, have reportedly begun weighing offers for the Los Angeles based company. Currently, any bid for the company would have to exceed the $66 million offer from Canadian apparel maker, Gildan Activewear, who in addition to the offer have also agreed to keep the company’s manufacturing plant in California which employs around 3,500 workers. American Apparel’s first bankruptcy, which was in 2015, occured in part due to high labour costs. The deadline for submitting bids for the company is Friday 6th January, with an outcome expected to be announced some time next week.
