Chief executive of the German grocer Aldi, Matthew Barnes has announced potential expansion plans for the next five year which may see up to eight stores in some towns. Speaking on the expansion he noted, “If you look at the population, we think not only could we have a store in every town and city, but for every 25,000 to 30,000 people.” If executed this could mean opening an additional 2,600 stores to add to their 700 already established locations.
