Adidas is set to more than double the production of shoes made out of recycled plastic waste this year.

The company plans to up its range in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans from five million in 2018 to 11 million this year.

Parley for the Oceans collects waste form beaches and transforms it into yarn, which can then be used to make footwear and apparel.

Adidas has also pledged to remove virgin polyester by 2024, as well as being one of 43 companies which has signed the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 and achieve zero emissions by 2050.
