It has been reported that retailers at Queensgate shopping centre in Peterborough are offering around 800 Christmas positions.
Retailers such as Marks and Spencer, BHS and John Lewis are looking to take on around 100 or more staff, whereas HMV, River Island, Boots and Argos are looking for around 20-30 staff. Other retailers looking to take on Christmas staff are Pandora, Lush, Game and Card Factory, as well as fashion retailers Fat Face, Superdry, Topman, Primark and Jack & Jones. Managers are looking to begin the interview process in a few weeks.
Mark Broadhead, centre director at Queensgate, said: “Queensgate is one of the biggest employers in Peterborough with over 2,500 local people employed throughout its 100 retailers, operational staff and management,” adding “The additional 800 positions are a huge boost to local employment and representative of the economic benefits Christmas brings to Peterborough city centre.”
Adding his comment, leader of Peterborough City Council, Councillor John Holdich, said: "It’s great to learn that Queensgate retailers are looking to recruit this number of temporary seasonal positions.
"These roles will be ideal for a number of people, not least the large of number of students who live in Peterborough, or those returning to the city from elsewhere.
"Other businesses, including Royal Mail and Amazon, have also announced they are recruiting for seasonal roles in Peterborough and this is very encouraging for those looking for work over the festive weeks."
