It has been reported that Whole Foods Market, the American grocery chain is to cut 1,500 jobs over the next eight weeks, however, it will not affect the chain’s UK stores.
The company have said the 1.6% decrease in workforce is so it can market its products at a lower price and upgrade its technology to help get rid of its current reputation as a high priced organic retailer.
Co-chief executive of Whole Foods Market, Walter Robb, said: "This is a very difficult decision, and we are committed to treating affected team members in a caring and respectful manner."
He also said employees would be offered the chance to apply for other jobs, transition pay or severance, and staff may find employment in a new chain of more value-focused, smaller stores which will open next year.
