Tesco is one of the world’s leading multinational retailers. We serve over 10 million customers a day in five markets.

The mission of the Customer Order product development team is to make ordering easy, convenient, and rewarding so that customers shop more of Tesco, more often. We are a cross functional Agile team of engineers, product managers and programme managers, based in London and Bengaluru.

Our product vision is to provide basket building, checkout, and order management capabilities that enable Tesco to test, launch and scale new lines of business at speed. We deliver retail innovation through a developer-friendly, omnichannel platform controlled, built, and operated by Tesco.

The Product Manager will be responsible for Vision, strategy, OKRs, Roadmap and day-to-day execution for the Online Payments API product.

The Payments API will enable customers/colleagues to take payment for an online order and provide a seamless checkout experience. It manages the payment platform that enables customers to pay for their online orders and the settlement process that allow Tesco to receive payments.. This is used in Web/App, One CEC. Several payment methods such as card, digital wallets, gift card payments, Buy now pay later etc are in scope of online payments

The Product Manager will obsess about the role that baskets, payments and orders play in customers’ lives and how orders can improve customers’ overall experience with Tesco. They are a domain expert for Tesco, traversing team boundaries, managing trade-offs, and able to collaborative confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences.

The Product Manager is empowered to deliver their API product with speed and impact. They will initiate product discovery and identify opportunities to deliver increments that are desirable for customers and colleagues, technically feasible, and viable for the Tesco business. They define the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ and deliver value in slices with their product development team. They collaborate closely with customers, operational colleagues, analytics, and research to optimise the product over time. They organise the work to demonstrate progress around strategic objectives and quarterly key results. This PM would be responsible for the optimal running of the Payments API, ensuring payment processing metrics are in good health and proposing initiatives for optimising authorisation success rates and payment retry strategies.

Experiences relevant for this role

  1. Management of an API or platform product to enable digital transformation and create new lines of business

  2. Business process mapping, workflow optimisation, human centred design

  3. Technically competent to influence and understand the solution context and approach (legacy, tactical, strategic) and trade-offs in software development choices
