A guide to Retail Appointment Live

The Retail Appointment's live careers event will be taking place this September at the Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel in London. On offer will be an impressive array of the UK's best known retail and hospitality names from a wide range of sectors, all recruiting for retail managers and head office staff. Here, we take a look at how you can get the best out of the event and leave with a fresh outlook on your career and even a brand new job with one of the high street's biggest brands.

This September will see the Retail Appointment’s first live recruitment event at London's Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel on 25th-26th September 2014. If you would like to attend, please register here.

Bringing retail job seekers and hiring employers together under one roof for two days in September, Retail Appointment Live will feature the very best in advice, workshops and networking to enhance and transform your career.

Exhibitors will be looking to recruit at all levels from retail sales assistants through to senior management and head office functions, whilst a comprehensive seminar programme will be running for people who want to improve their skill sets, both in the workplace and in the jobseeking process.

In addition, one of the top attractions for candidates is the CV doctor, a free service provided by consultancy Retail Human Resources that aims to talk potential candidates through their CVs and offer advice and changes if necessary.

Exhibitors at the next event include River Island, H&M, Claire’s, Mitchells & Butlers, Benefit Cosmetics, Coral, House of Fraser, Harrods, Dixons, The Co-operative Food, Primark, Gap and Selfridges — although more companies are signing up all the time.

Meanwhile, for candidates seeking a variety of options across the sectors, specialist consultancies Fashion & Retail Personnel and Retail Human Resources also have stands manned by professional recruiters who can offer advice and, of course, a wealth of new opportunities.

Who should attend?

Our exhibitors will be looking for people who are pursing new management, head office, and sales-based challenges. Whether you have been working in retail for ten months or ten years, we would love to meet you. And, with exhibitors covering all sectors of retail and hospitality, we’re sure to have a job that appeals to you. Meanwhile, if you're simply looking to rejuvenate your career, then attend one of our informative and engaging seminars (see our seminar programme for more information).

What happens at the event?

The Retail Appointment Live is run over two days, and with the UK’s leading retailers exhibiting, there is plenty to do.

At our London event, all of the exhibitors are at the event on both days, meaning you can visit the event at a time that suits you, with a choice of two days.

As well as talking to the exhibitors about current opportunities and potential vacancies, we also have a comprehensive seminar programme giving you the skills you need to stay ahead in the fast-moving retail industry. Plus, we have a team of CV Doctors on hand to make sure that your first impression with a new employer isn’t your last!

To make the most of your time, why not familiarise yourself with our exhibitor list and seminar timetable then plan who you want to see, what you want to do and when? And remember… don’t be shy; everyone will be delighted to speak with you.

What do I wear?

Think of The Retail Appointment Live as the first stage of an interview and first impressions count. Dress to impress because you could be talking to your next employer, but also remember that you need to be comfortable and are likely to spend a lot of time on your feet.

What do I need to bring with me?

After registering for one of our events, you will be emailed a fast-track entry ticket which you need to print off and bring with you on the day. Alternatively, just make a note of your unique reference number on the email and bring that along with you.

It is also a good idea to bring multiple copies of your CV to give to employers as well as a pen and notepad to take down any additional information regarding the next step in their recruitment process.

If you are hoping to really impress a potential employer on the day, why not do a little research beforehand, too? Look up their website to find out some background information on the company and their vacancies on offer.
