About us
Poundland was founded in 1990 with a store in Burton-upon-Trent. It sells top brands and its own private-label ranges, with an extensive FMCG range alongside general merchandise and family fashion, and reports serving 20 million customers a year from hundreds of stores on local high streets. In the Republic of Ireland it trades as Dealz. In June 2025 Poundland was acquired by Gordon Brothers.
Where people work: in Poundland and Dealz stores, as sales assistants, team leaders, assistant store managers and store managers; in its distribution centres; and in its Customer Support Centre in Walsall, in teams such as buying, merchandising, supply chain, finance and property services. Sales assistant adverts say retail experience is welcome but not essential, with training provided and routes on to team leader and beyond.
This Christmas Poundland is taking on temporary sales assistants in its stores.
What Poundland offers (listed on its job adverts): a 10% colleague discount card with extra discount events, an extra day off for your birthday, 28 days' holiday including bank holidays rising by a day a year to 33, access to up to 50% of earned wages early through a financial wellbeing platform, wellbeing support through the Retail Trust, discounts and vouchers through My Staff Shop, training and qualifications, life assurance, long-service awards and a pension. Management and support-centre roles add an annual bonus scheme.
Poundland reports halving its carbon footprint against 2019 and has run its shops on 100% renewable energy since mid-2022.
