Morrisons

Morrisons is a Yorkshire-based food manufacturer and retailer and one of the UK’s leading supermarkets. Its story began in 1899, when William Morrison set up as an egg and butter merchant on a market stall in Bradford, and the business still has its head office in the city. Morrisons reports around 90,000 colleagues, nearly 500 supermarkets, around 1,600 Morrisons Daily convenience stores and nearly 11 million customer visits to its stores every week.

In store, Customer Assistants work across the shop floor, checkouts, online orders and Market Street, the in-store counters where Morrisons’ butchers, bakers, fishmongers and florists work. Stores also have cafés, pharmacies and home delivery drivers, and Morrisons recruits Team Leaders, Trading, Café and Night Managers, and Store Managers. Morrisons Daily convenience stores, across England, Scotland and Wales, offer roles from Customer Assistant and Post Office counter to Store Manager and Area Manager.

Beyond the stores, Myton Food Group, Morrisons’ manufacturing business, runs 19 sites that make fresh meat and fish, pies, bread, produce and flower bouquets; Morrisons describes itself as the UK’s second largest food manufacturer. Its logistics teams work from seven sites and make more than 1,000 deliveries to stores each day, and its head office in Bradford supports every part of the business.

Progression: the Ken Morrison Leadership School, launched for Morrisons’ 125th anniversary, is a six-month programme open to colleagues who meet its entry criteria, helping them move up to the next work level. Morrisons also runs apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships, industrial placements and graduate schemes in areas including retail, manufacturing, logistics, technology, finance and buying.
