John Lewis sales at its department stores have risen by 5.7% last week as it has benefited from shoppers purchasing Father’s Day gifts and taking advantage of a price matching promotion.

Retail sales were strong with an uplift of 10.9% as the womenswear category achieved sales growth of 11%. Within this, own brand womenswear sales climbed by 11.2%. The women’s accessories and jewellery categories also had good week with sales rising by 15.4% and 20% respectively. Trading in the menswear category was boosted by Father’s Day as sales rose by 19.7%. John Lewis said men’s socks were the most popular gift.
