Full Time
At M&S, we are committed to delivering innovative, sustainable and operationally effective stores that support our Plan A and Carbon Net Zero ambitions. As Refrigeration Engineering Manager, you will take ownership of refrigeration specifications across our store estate, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, driving engineering innovation and delivering high-performing refrigeration solutions.

Working closely with Property, Store Design, Construction, Facilities Management and external partners, you will play a key role in shaping future refrigeration strategies, improving equipment performance and supporting new store concepts through technical excellence.

What You Will Do

  • Partner with Store Design and key stakeholders to support the technical development of new store concepts and initiatives, ensuring solutions are delivered right first time.
  • Identify and lead engineering innovation opportunities that improve sustainability, energy efficiency, operational performance and refrigerant strategy delivery.
  • Review and analyse refrigeration equipment performance, identify root cause issues and develop short, medium and long-term improvement plans with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships across Construction, Facilities Management, Procurement, consultants and suppliers, providing technical guidance, carrying out technical reviews and supporting investment and category planning decisions.

Who You Will Be

  • A collaborative and influential stakeholder manager who can build strong relationships across multiple business functions and external supply partners.
  • A proactive problem solver with the ability to analyse complex technical issues and develop practical, long-term solutions.
  • Passionate about sustainability, innovation and continuous improvement, with a focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • A highly organised professional with strong planning, prioritisation and communication skills who can manage multiple activities effectively.
  • Customer-focused and commercially aware, balancing operational requirements, quality standards and cost considerations to achieve the best outcomes.

What You Will Bring

  • Recognised qualification in Refrigeration at degree level or equivalent.
  • Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration systems, including design, specification and maintenance requirements.
  • Experience in technical management across a multi-site environment, with proven success managing relationships with third-party suppliers, consultants and contractors.
  • Practical knowledge of refrigeration legislation, Health and Safety requirements, statutory compliance, F-Gas regulations and environmental standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational, budget management and communication skills, with the ability to maintain high standards whilst delivering against business objectives.
