Chef De Partie - Cambridge

Chef De Partie - Cambridge

PublishedPublished: 10/07/2026

Chef de Partie | The Perse School, Cambridge

£27,754.80 a year (£15.15 an hour) | 40 hours, Monday to Friday | Term time plus, 45.8 weeks paid in 12 equal monthly instalments

Most chef jobs take your evenings, your weekends and your Christmas. This one run Monday to Friday, finishes at 3.30pm on earlies and 7pm on lates, and hands you Christmas, Easter, half terms and most of the summer.

If you're already cooking in a school, you know hours like these. What's rarer is the rest of it: every hour over 40 paid, time and a half after 6pm and on Saturdays, double time on Sundays, and the lates and occasional Saturdays shared evenly across the team rather than left to whoever joined last. Weekend work is genuinely rare.

The food is cooked on site each day. Menus change each term and you'll have a hand in them: bringing your own dishes, testing new ideas, and taking feedback from the most honest customers in the trade.

**Day to day, you’ll: **

- Run your section: prep, cook and serve to a standard you'd put your name to
- Help develop menus and new food concepts
- Stay on top of ordering, stock and allergen information
- Keep hygiene and food safety audit-ready
- Support and guide commis chefs and kitchen assistants on your section

**You'll need:**

- City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or an NVQ equivalent
- Experience at CDP level or similar; school or contract catering experience is ideal
- A Food Hygiene certificate
- A bit of flexibility for the occasional late or Saturday, paid at the rates above
- [An enhanced DBS check, which we'll arrange]

**The package:**

You'd be joining Chartwells, part of Compass Group, the UK's largest food service company, so the benefits go beyond a fruit bowl in the staff room:

- Contributory pension
- Digital GP access for you and your immediate family, plus wider healthcare benefits
- Discounts at Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons, travel deals with TUI, Expedia and Booking.com, up to 44% off cinema tickets, and cash rewards every time you spend. All shareable with friends and family
- Free wellness, mindfulness and exercise classes
- Career Pathways and MyLearning programmes, so the next step up is a route, not a rumour

If you'd like to cook well and still have a life outside the kitchen, we'd like to hear from you.
