About the role


We're looking for a Trainee Health & Safety Business Partner to join our team, supporting locations across Southwest England and South Wales.


This is an exciting opportunity for someone at the beginning of their Health & Safety career who is keen to learn, develop new skills and gain hands-on experience across a multi-site business. Working alongside experienced Health & Safety professionals, you'll help promote a positive safety culture across Halfords Retail, Garages and Mobile operations.


You'll support managers and colleagues to improve health and safety standards, carry out inspections and audits, investigate incidents, and help deliver training and awareness initiatives. This role offers excellent exposure to a wide range of Health & Safety activities and provides a great foundation for a long-term career in the profession.


Key Responsibilities



  • Support the delivery of health and safety audits, inspections and workplace assessments across multiple sites

  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve health and safety standards and compliance

  • Support in producing inspection reports and support site teams in implementing improvement actions

  • Assist with the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, helping to identify root causes and preventative measures

  • Provide practical health and safety guidance to managers and colleagues with support from the wider Health & Safety team

  • Respond to and help resolve health and safety concerns raised by colleagues, contractors and visitors

  • Support the learning and development team in the delivery of health and safety training, guidance documents and awareness campaigns

  • Promote best practice and encourage positive health and safety behaviours

  • Work closely with the Senior Health & Safety Business Partner and Group Head of Health & Safety on a variety of projects and activities


About You


We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, eager to learn and passionate about developing a career in Health & Safety.


You'll ideally have:



  • A genuine interest in Health & Safety and a desire to build a career in the profession

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or be working towards it), although this is not essential

  • A basic understanding of Health & Safety principles and legislation

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The confidence to build relationships and work with colleagues at all levels

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • The ability to manage your workload and work independently when required

  • A positive and proactive approach to learning and personal development.

  • Flexibility to travel regularly across the region, including occasional overnight stays

  • A full UK driving licence
