What you'll be doing

As Medical Director (Innovation) for Boots Online Doctor, you'll set the clinical direction for new services, products and ways of working — helping shape how digital healthcare evolves across a trusted national brand. Based in Islington, this is a senior leadership role with real influence across product, technology, commercial and clinical teams, where your judgement will help turn innovation into safe, scalable patient care.

You'll be the clinical voice at senior level, guiding decisions on what to build, how to launch it and where the clinical safety line sits. It's a strong fit for a senior doctor who wants to move beyond advisory input and play a hands-on role in launching clinically sound, compliant digital services at pace.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the clinical strategy for innovation across Boots Online Doctor, from new treatment services to emerging technologies
• Provide clinical leadership and sign-off for new services, clinical pathways and product features
• Ensure new services meet regulatory requirements, including CQC standards and clinical safety standards
• Work closely with product, technology, commercial and clinical teams to identify, evaluate and prioritise new opportunities
• Act as the clinical voice at senior level, influencing product and business decisions with clear clinical insight
• Champion the safe and responsible use of digital tools, data and AI in clinical care
• Support and lead clinical colleagues working in product and innovation roles
• Make confident, timely decisions in a fast-moving environment with frequent iteration
• Help build services that combine clinical excellence with accessible digital care at scale

What you'll need to have (our must-haves)

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
• Inclusion on the GP Register or Specialist Register
• Significant post-qualification clinical experience, including senior clinical leadership
• A track record of developing and launching new clinical services, pathways or digital products
• Strong understanding of healthcare regulation, clinical governance and patient safety
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and turn clinical insight into product and business decisions
• Confident, timely decision-making with a clear sense of where the clinical safety line sits
• A collaborative, flexible approach and the confidence to thrive in a fast-changing, start-up mentality environment

It would be great if you also have

• Clinical Safety Officer training (DCB0129/DCB0160)
• Experience in digital health, telemedicine or health tech
• Experience working with AI or data-driven clinical tools
• A postgraduate qualification in leadership, healthcare management or digital health
