About the role At Tesco, our Network Security team plays a critical role in safeguarding the foundational layer of our digital ecosystem, the network transport layer. This layer underpins every application and system we operate, making its security essential to our business resilience.
We are looking for a skilled and proactive Network Security Manager to join our team. In this role, you will drive the alignment of security engineering capabilities with internal risk, compliance, and governance frameworks, ensuring Network Security operates as a proactive, intelligence-led cyber defence function.
This role combines technical leadership, strategic innovation, and people development, positioning Network Security as a critical business enabler. By delivering resilient, scalable, and increasingly AI-driven security capabilities, you will help strengthen Tesco’s cyber resilience while supporting its commitment to putting the customer first

You will be responsible for •Demonstrable leadership experience in building, managing, and developing high-performing engineering teams, with a strong focus on inclusion, engagement, wellbeing, and delivery excellence.•Deep technical expertise in network security technologies and principles, including firewalls, network segmentation, secure connectivity, cloud networking, DDoS protection, DNS security, remote access, and zero-trust architectures.•Experience leading the design, implementation, and operation of enterprise-scale network security controls within complex, geographically distributed environments.•Strong understanding of cyber security risk management, governance, and compliance frameworks, with the ability to translate business requirements and security risks into effective technical solutions.•Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capability, with experience navigating complex technical challenges and balancing security, operational, and commercial priorities.•Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels and build strong partnerships across Cyber Security, Infrastructure, Technology, and business functions.•Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess threats, evaluate technical options, and drive timely, risk-based outcomes.•Experience operating within large-scale enterprise or retail environments, with an appreciation for the challenges of securing highly distributed networks, cloud services, stores, fulfilment centres, offices, and third-party connectivity.•Commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, learning, collaboration, and technical excellence across the team.

•Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, inclusion, and continuous learning aligned to Tesco’s leadership principles.•Drive innovation in cyber defence, embedding Applied AI and automation into network security workflows to improve speed, accuracy, and scale of approvals.•Oversee secure, test-driven engineering practices, ensuring high-quality, resilient network security capabilities are maintained and tested regularly to ensure minimal compliance drift.•Collaborate across cyber defence, technology, and business teams, influencing stakeholders to ensure security engineering outcomes directly support customer safety and operational continuity.

Experience with cloud-native networking and security controls across Azure and GCP.•Industry certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, CCNP Security, CISM, GIAC, or equivalent.•Experience implementing Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), or software-defined networking technologies.•Exposure to AI-driven security operations, network analytics, and automated response capabilities.•Experience managing supplier relationships, strategic partnerships, and outsourced service providers.
