Refrigeration Maintenance Technician
As a Refrigeration Maintenance Technician at Tesco, covering our South London areas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping our environments comfortable, safe, and fully operational for both customers and colleagues. The role involves maintaining, repairing and improving refrigeration assets to ensure our stores remain safe, compliant and operational for customers and colleagues.
You’ll be part of a skilled maintenance team, responsible for both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across a wide range of refrigeration systems and equipment. From diagnosing faults to carrying out repairs and optimising system performance, your work will help ensure a seamless shopping experience for thousands of customers every day.
This is a hands-on, mobile role that requires strong technical knowledge, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to high standards of service and safety. As a Service Maintenance Technician in Refrigeration, your specific responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks. To thrive in this role, you will need to:
- Install, maintain, and repair refrigeration systems to industry standards.
- Conduct routine inspections and propose solutions for potential issues.
- Monitor system performance and optimize efficiency.
- Collaborate on preventative maintenance programs.
- Respond to emergency service calls promptly.
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on refrigeration equipment.
- Minimise equipment downtime and support store availability.
- Complete maintenance work orders accurately and in real time.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety and compliance.
- Identify and report asset risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Support delivery of F-Gas compliance and leakage reduction initiatives.
- Develop strong working relationships with store teams and key stakeholders.
- Manage van stock effectively and ensure correct parts are ordered and returned where appropriate.
- Participate in on-call and out-of-hours support arrangements when required.
- Drive first-time fix performance and minimise repeat failures.

- Relevant certifications essential (e.g., City & Guilds 2079 F-Gas).
- Co2 experience (service and maintenance).
- Ability to read drawings.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong refrigeration knowledge.
- Suitable Maths & English qualification.
- Good communication skills
- Refrigeration or HVAC qualification.
- Current F-Gas Category 1 certification.
- Experience maintaining commercial refrigeration systems.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Good IT skills and ability to use handheld technology for job management.
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
- Experience within a retail or supermarket environment.
- Electrical fault-finding knowledge.
- Experience working with remote monitoring systems.
