What you’ll be doing
As an Optometrist at Boots, you’ll play a key role in delivering brilliant patient care – using the latest tech, working alongside experienced colleagues, and supporting your community with clinical excellence. Whether you're leading a clinic, responding to triage, or mentoring others, no two days are the same, and your growth never stops.
Key responsibilities

  • Leading clinics and delivering outstanding patient care
  • Using the latest testing technology to assess eye health and provide expert advice
  • Providing enhanced services, from triage support to advanced assessments, depending on store needs
  • Offering clinical support to colleagues on the shop floor
  • Collaborating with external healthcare professionals
  • Keeping your clinical knowledge up to date and sharing it with others
  • Playing a key role in your store’s leadership team, bringing energy and insight to every shift

What you’ll need to have (our must-haves)
  • We’re looking for Optometrists who are confident, compassionate, and always focused on doing the right thing for patients.
  • GOC registered (or expecting to be within 6 months)
  • NHS performer number (or working towards it)
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills
  • A genuine interest in patient care and team collaboration

It would be great if you also have
  • Experience supporting enhanced services
  • A strong understanding of local clinical networks

We are very excited to be recruiting for a Optician in our fantastic practice at Boots Opticians in Hawick.

You will join our amazing team of 6 which includes our resident Optometrist, Store Manager and Optical Consultants, all with great experience across a variety of roles.

Hawick is a large town in the Scottish Borders and we have patients who come from nearby towns including Jedburgh, Kelso and Langholm. We are seeing an increase in new patients attending the practice and have a large over 60 demographic. There is free parking nearby the practice.

We have 1 testing rooms in our freestanding practice without Hearing Care, benefiting from brilliant equipment including a Phoropter and OCT to support us in our journey to provide the best service to our customers and patients.
