The Internal Auditor supports the Internal Audit Manager in delivering independent, professional internal audit, advisory services and risk management services to the business. The role contributes to assessing the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal controls, while helping stakeholders strengthen processes and make well‑informed decisions.

Working within a small, collaborative internal audit and risk team, the role assists in the planning and delivery of risk‑based audits, undertakes control testing and analysis, and supports advisory work on projects and business change. The role also plays a key part in gathering information for risk reporting and maintaining documentation that supports effective risk management.

This is a hands-on development role suited to someone with strong analytical capability, curiosity, and attention to detail, who is comfortable working with stakeholders and keen to build a career in audit, risk and control.


Internal Audit & Advisory

  • Support the delivery of the assigned elements of the approved internal audit plan.
  • Assist in planning and scoping audits, including background research and data gathering.
  • Execute audit fieldwork under the guidance of the Internal Audit Manager, including walkthroughs, process mapping, control testing and data analysis.
  • Evaluate controls for design and operating effectiveness.
  • Identify potential control gaps, process inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Draft clear and concise audit working papers and contribute to audit reports.
  • Support discussions with stakeholders to validate findings and agree action plans.
  • Monitor and follow up on open audit actions with stakeholders.
  • Provide support on advisory reviews, projects and business change initiatives as required.
  • Contribute ideas to enhance internal audit methodologies, templates or ways of working.

Risk Management

  • Support the business risk assessment process by collecting and consolidating risk information from functional teams.
  • Assist in updating the corporate risk register and associated documentation.
  • Help analyse risk themes and emerging issues for reporting purposes.
  • Prepare inputs, data and summaries for risk dashboards and reporting packs.
  • Promote awareness and consistency in risk management practices across the business.

Team & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build positive working relationships with stakeholders across all areas of the business.
  • Work collaboratively, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues.

  • Contribute to team initiatives, training sessions and continuous improvement activities.

Skills and Experience required

  • Internal audit experience across areas including operational, financial, IT and compliance
  • Understanding of internal control concepts and risk management principles.
  • Accounting or Audit qualification e.g. ACA, CIA or equivalent, or working towards one
  • High standards of integrity, objectivity, and professionalism
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and identify themes.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication, including preparing reports or presenting to management
  • Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines and deliver high‑quality work with attention to detail.
  • Curious, proactive and keen to develop technical and commercial understanding.
  • Retail experience desirable
