We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Hub Sous Chef to join our catering team at Uppingham School. Working within the Hub, you will play an important role in the preparation and delivery of high-quality food across the School’s catering operation.

Uppingham is a vibrant co-educational boarding school where its houses are at the heart of school life. With pupils and staff eating together as a house community, the Hub plays an important role in ensuring food is fresh, nutritious and consistently delivered to a high standard.

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented Sous Chef who enjoys working in a busy kitchen environment, supporting a team and producing high-quality food at scale.

MORE ABOUT THE ROLE:

• Support the Head Chef and Senior Sous Chef with the day-to-day running of the Hub kitchen and food production operation.

• Take a hands-on role in the preparation, cooking and presentation of fresh, high-quality food.

• Support the delivery of menus across the School, ensuring recipes, specifications, portion sizes and presentation standards are consistently followed.

• Help organise and coordinate daily food production to ensure meals are prepared and delivered on time.

• Support and supervise kitchen team members during food preparation and service.

• Contribute ideas to menu development and the continuous improvement of the food offer.

• Assist with stock control, ordering, portion control and waste management.

• Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.

• Follow all food safety, allergen, HSE, COSHH and HACCP procedures at all times.

• Work collaboratively with the wider Lodestone House catering team to ensure a consistent food offer across the School.

• Support with events, functions and high-volume catering requirements when required.

WHO YOU ARE:

• An experienced Sous Chef, Chef de Partie or Chef looking to take the next step in their career.

• Passionate about fresh, high-quality food and delivering an excellent dining experience.

• Confident working in a busy kitchen and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.

• A strong team player who can support and motivate colleagues during busy services.

• Organised, reliable and able to work to deadlines.

• Creative and enthusiastic, with a genuine interest in food and menu development.

• Understanding of food safety, allergen management, HSE and COSHH requirements.

• Experienced in food preparation, production and service within a professional kitchen environment.

• A positive and professional communicator who works well as part of a wider team.

• Ideally qualified to City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent, with a Food Hygiene qualification.

WHY JOIN US?
