According to the latest CBI Distributive Trade Survey, retail sales volumes made marginal growth in February after lacklustre performances from retailers in January. 128 companies were surveyed with 64 of them being retailers, with the results suggesting that sales are also expected to increase at a slowed rate in March. The growth was mainly driven by clothing sales and the non-store sector, leading some to state that the poor forecasts for the start of the year were overdone. Despite this, it was found from this survey that the retailers expect their business situation to worsen over the coming months due to a rise in cost pressures.
