The fall in the value of the pound has energised overseas shoppers who have flooded the UK high street to take advantage of the lower price of branded goods. They reported that sales had increased by 40% during the final three months of the year, with much of the boost being attributed to shoppers from China and Hong Kong. The brand has catered to this audience in some of its stores, hiring Mandarin-speaking shop assistants and displaying signs encouraging customers to “Give the gift of Burberry this Lunar New Year”. In addition to this, another factor in the rising sales may be the increase in the personal shopper experience, which has seen a double-digit improvement on spending from returning customers.
